The Minister for Children and Youth Affairs, Dr Katherine Zappone, has today published the Third Interim Report from the Commission of Investigation into Mother and Baby Homes.

19/11/2017 - Tuam Home Survivors Network would like to congratulate Mia Mullarky, Alice McDowell and all the supporting team of Iska films for winning Best Documentary Short at the Cork Film Festival 2017. Mother & Baby, a documentary on survivors of the Tuam mother and baby home, which had its world premiere as part of the Bord Scannán na hÉireann/the Irish Film Board World Premiere Shorts programme.

05/11/2017 - Expert Technical Group Tuam Report

Minister Katherine Zappone has received the report of the Expert Technical Group dealing with the site of the former Mother and Baby Home, Tuam, Co. Galway.  The multidisciplinary team of experts was appointed to provide technical advices to Government on the future of the site after the Commission’s announcement in March 2017 that they had discovered significant quantities of human remains at the former Mother and Baby Home.

05/11/2017 - The 62nd Cork Film Festival takes place from November 10-19,  showcasing the best in Irish and international film. This year’s festival will screen more than 200 films, with the majority being Irish premieres.  One of the entrants this year is a short film called Mother & Baby produced by Alice McDowell and Mia Mullarkey.  Both Alice and Mia are film producers and Mia is the director and founder of Iska Films.  Iska Films is made up of a cross section of award winning directors writers and composers. They work in fiction, documentary, music video and are based in both Dublin and Galway.

30/10/2017 - Catherine Corless once again is to receive an award for investigative research for her work which led to the discovery of the remains of hundreds of babies at the site of the Tuam mother and baby home.

Catherine will be presented with the one-off award at the NewsBrands Irish Journalism Awards this Thursday in the Mansion House for her investigation into the former institution for unmarried mothers run by the Sisters of Bon Secours.

NewsBrands Ireland chairman Vincent Crowley said: "Without her work, the press would not have been able to tell the story and it would have remained hidden with the hundreds of innocent souls, away from public sight.

Tuam Home Survivors would like to extend a very sincere congratulations to Catherine on receiving this award.

26/10/2017 - Catherine Corless was speaking in Dublin on Thursday where she was presented with the annual Human Rights Award from barristers’ organisation the Bar of Ireland, for her work in relation to the Tuam Mother & Baby Home.  Following the ceremony Catherine said she was “truly honoured” to receive the award.

She said: “I’m not used to public speaking. I think this is my third speech total. However, I feel it is important to keep making these addresses so that we might garner the attention needed to see justice done for the survivors of the Tuam home and many other homes like it.”“My work campaigning on behalf of the survivors of mother and baby homes continues and I hope that this special award will give even more survivors the strength to come forward to tell their story,” she said.
